Field view

Field view puts an incident on a tablet or phone at the scene. The incident commander, or an aide, can catch up on what was said, see the key moments and which benchmarks are still to come, and follow the radio traffic as it is written down. It is included in the Professional and Enterprise plans.

Advisory only. Transcripts can lag a few seconds and can be wrong or missing. Keep listening to the radio: it is the source of truth. FiregroundScribe is not a life-safety or accountability system, and field view does not alert anyone.

Opening it

On the tablet or phone, open the FiregroundScribe web page and sign in, then choose Field view in the menu (or go to /field). From outside the station, use the address from Remote access in FiregroundScribe Manager; inside the station, the PC's address on your network works.

Field view runs full screen. The buttons at the top:

  • Live (green dot): updates arrive as they happen. Grey means it is reconnecting.
  • Lightbulb: keep the screen on while field view is open (tablets in the command vehicle).
  • Moon / sun: night mode, easier on the eyes in the dark.

Joining an incident

Going on now lists incidents with radio traffic in the last hour or so, newest first. Incidents FiregroundScribe started by itself from radio traffic say from radio. Tap Join to follow one.

Starting an incident

Officers and administrators can start an incident before radio traffic has: enter the address, pick the type and tap Start incident. From then on, new radio traffic is added to it.

If an incident is already going on, FiregroundScribe asks first: join that one so everything stays in one place, or start a separate incident if it really is a different one.

On the incident

  • The clock counts from the first arrival (on scene), or from the start of the incident.
  • Benchmarks: water on the fire, primary all clear, under control and the others your department tracks, ticked with their time once heard, or not yet.
  • Key moments: each detected event with its time, how long after arrival, and the words.
  • Safety traffic (MAYDAY, emergency traffic, evacuation, RIT) is listed in red at the top. It is an automatic detection: confirm it on the radio.
  • Radio: every transmission, newest first, with who was talking and a play button for the audio. Transmissions that came in while you weren't looking (the screen was off or you were in another app) are marked new, with a count at the top; tap Caught up to clear it.
  • Units: units heard on the incident and when they were last heard.
  • Notes from the field (officers): tap Add note for one-tap notes such as PAR complete, Utilities secured or RIT in place, or type your own. Each is stamped with the time and your name and goes on the incident's timeline and its report.
  • Time marks: the radio list has a divider every 10 minutes after arrival, and the clock shows when the next 10-minute mark comes. They are on screen only; nothing sounds.

If the connection drops (a dead zone), the page says so, keeps showing everything it already had, and fills in what was said in the meantime as soon as it's back.

On the home screen

Add field view to the tablet's or phone's home screen and it opens straight to field view, full screen, like an app: on an iPad or iPhone, Safari → Share → Add to Home Screen; on Android, Chrome → menu → Add to Home screen (or Install app).

On a phone, switch between Catch up, Radio and Units at the top; on a tablet in landscape they are side by side.

Everyone who joins an incident in field view is noted in the activity log.
